We are Curt and Chase Johnston, a father and son rural appraisal team located in Greeley, Colorado. We have over 30 years of experience, completing appraisals throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nebraska, New Mexico, Kansas, Texas, Idaho, South Dakota, Montana and Florida. 


Licensed in Colorado and Wyoming and have the ability obtain permits in other states. 


Specializing in dairies, feedlot facilities, water valuations, farms, and ranches. 


Experienced in all phases of Agriculture and Transitional Land Valuations.

About Us

Curt L. Johnston is a native of Colorado and has lived amongst the agriculture community all his life.   He graduated from Sterling High School and proceeded on to College at Northeastern JR College and then received a BS degree in Vocational AG at CSU. Curt taught high school agriculture classes for three years prior to his 26 year employment with Farm Credit Services.  During his years of raising two children, with his wife Rose, he also operated a small farm and registered cattle operation for 25 years.

Curt has been appraising farms, ranches, dairies, feedlots, agricultural properties, livestock and equipment in Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, Idaho, Wyoming, Kansas, Montana, Texas, Florida and Nebraska for over 31 years.

Experience includes over 3,100 appraisals; valuations of large dairies in Texas, Florida, Idaho, New Mexico and Colorado.  Feedlots, irrigated farmland, dry land ranches in Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota, Montana, Kansas, and Nebraska.  Vegetable farms, storage facilities and complex properties, etc.  Dealt with all phases of real estate transactions, financing to loan closings, water, easement, machinery, and livestock valuations, city comprehensive development plans, and livestock inventory work, including feedlots etc.

Curt L. Johnston has earned the Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) designation which is awarded by the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA) to those members who have had years of experience, are technically trained, have passed a rigid examination, and subscribe to a high code of ethics.

Curt’s hobbies have always been horses and cattle and still competes in calf roping and team roping to this day. He enjoys rodeo and its venues and did coach the CSU Rodeo Team for 5 years.  Curt has lived in the Greeley and Eaton area of Colorado for 30 years now and enjoys the rural life.


 

Chase began working for Pro Ag Appraisal part time from 2005 through May of 2007 while in College.  In May of 2007, he began working for Pro Ag full time after graduating from CSU.  Chase took his agricultural back ground and knowledge of the agricultural industry to the appraisal field.

Chase began his appraisal education in 2006 and received his Certified General Appraisal License in January of 2013.  Through the course of those seven years, Chase completed over 300 hours of appraisal education and logged over 3,000 hours of appraisal experience time.  He plans to continue his education and earn his A.R.A accreditation through the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers in the future.

Chase has been married to his wife Tana, since 2010 and they live near Kersey, CO on a small acreage farm.  Together they enjoy roping and rodeoing through the CPRA (Colorado Pro Rodeo Association).  Chase also participates in rodeos through the PRCA (Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association).  When they are not working or on the road, they enjoy working on their place and they have an extensive garden.

Reports That We Provide

 

  • We pride ourselves in providing a very readable and reliable report to all of our clients.
  • All reports are narrative reports but Pro Ag Appraisal does have capability to do UAAR form reports upon request.
  • The three types of narrative reports are Self-Contained, Summary and Restrictive Use.  A majority of the reports that are completed are Summary Reports.  These reports have different levels of information with the highest level of detail and explanation being in the Self-Contained then Summary then Restrictive Use.

Appraisal Process

At Pro Ag Appraisal we strive to produce complete, credible and accurate appraisal reports in a timely manner that our clients can trust…

  • Request an appraisal bid based on the size, type and location of the property  (Irrigation rights, leases and contracts.  Also indicate the complexity of the assignment).
  • After a signed engagement, appraiser will start the appraisal process.
  • Schedule of property inspection.
  • Complete comparable sales research and confirmation.
  • Completion of the appraisal report and delivery.

Typical time period from engagement to appraisal delivery ranges from 30 to 45 days.
